Can you plays this game on windows pc? Or do you have to get it on steam?

I payed $60 to get Atlas for me and my bestfriend. We love the game and we've played for hours but the one thing that pissed us fucking off is that whenever we leave play for a bit, leave the game, and come back to the game crashes everything. Today me and my friend built a massive ship on our own, we got a bunch of resources and we were sailing to the next region. My friend was killed by a whale and when he tried spewing back in the game his screen went black and his game crashed. He tried loading the server but it gave him the same erred. FATAL ERROR GAME CRASH. This happened whenever I ran a server and I thought it was because my computer might be bad or something but he has a more powerful monitor and tower and it still crashed for him. We should all spam Wild cards email till they fix this. I have seen that this has been happening for thousands of other players as well and it needs to be fixed so this game can reach the potential it has.
