"Hey rhinos need a weight reduction on stone, these things are terrible compared to elephants"

    -Removed elephant weight reduction.

"Hey offline raiding is a huge problem and you're bleeding players because of it, please make bases more secure"

    • Nearly tripled the damage that things deal to stone structures. Kind of made an auto turret that people can cannon dead from outside of its range.

You're really on a roll Grapeshot.

    Stone Structure Costs Increased

    Posted: 23 Jan 2019 10:58 PM PST

I genuinely think they want the game to die.

    Posted: 24 Jan 2019 04:44 AM PST

I'm trying to defend this game, I really am. The boat mechanics are amazing, and who doesn't love pirates? But at this rate I can't defend them anymore, the entire game is an Ark and DnL asset flip, most of the game was already done for them and they still manage to fuck it up.

Alphas have been in the game since day one, and since day one the only way to actually kill an alpha in an even semi reasonable manner was fire arrows. So what did you do? Pump up the alpha rates and nerf fire arrows to the floor. I understand wanting them to not be as good in pvp, but now if you run into an alpha lion or wolf you are just dead, borderline nothing you can do short of a balista now.

Guns were viable for a bit, even with the horrendous reload times atleast they packed a punch and if you had a well aimed shot you would drop whatever was bugging you in one swoop. So you responded by raising the price of ammo, then nerfing guns so far to the floor that they cant even one shot a lvl 1 tiger anymore.

You showed your fancy trailer with npc shops, treasure maps, npc merchant ships, salvaging, and ships of the damned right off the bat! But wait... literally none of those things were in the game when it launched, its almost like you had the assets done.. then put them in to bullshit the game for launch, then put them back in as "updates".

You refuse to region lock China, you can call me racist I don't care, its fact. The Chinese community as a whole is far more accepting of the use of exploits/dupes/cheats, if you don't believe me go to Huya, the Chinese version of Twitch. 9/10 of the streamers there are using some form of cheat/exploit, and its not even like this should be a surprise. They have cheated in every single game YOU (I know you keep changing company names but drop the bullshit, its the same people) and yes I understand that other communities use cheats as well, but this is a numbers game.

Then you decided to let the alpha groups build behemoth gates at the stupid low prices, despite you knowing that was a bad idea from the start (you made the exact same change in every game you've released so far) allowing large groups to completely lock down islands and/or mass demolish for huge piles of resources.

But hey atleast we have our tames right! Oh wait no we don't, because animals spawn indoors, can walk right through walls if they arent fully loaded out of stasis, and if you encounter one of the previously mentioned alphas you are just dead.. theres nothing you can do to fight back since they are faster and machine gun 100's while also taking reduced damage from you. But dont worry if by some miracle you manage to kill one you get that sweet sweet reward of... more meat and hide. Also again both of those bugs were in and were fixed in Ark, there was zero reason to port that over.

Then theres the weight system, you saw the community was being forced to use weight bugs just to move basic resources, so your response was to fix those bugs without giving an alternative, then remove the weight reduction of the only semi viable gathering animal, and only finally when reddit and your own forums bitched about it for 48 hours straight did you do the right thing and increase the animal weight.

Speaking of weight bugs, you saw people abusing your weight system to sink ships.. and instead of.. I don't know.. changing that value to false until that was fixed, you just made people float around infinitely, allowing people to grief freeports by just spamming ships around you to the point you couldnt get on your own boat. But hey atleast we got those ramshackle sloops.. that are basically only being used as suicide vessels THAT YOU CANT EVEN SALVAGE FOR MATS, and since theres no reason to salvage them the wreckage is lagging the fuck out of anywhere they go to.

and now for the creme of the crop. Not even a month in and we have had 4 major hacker attacks abusing admin privileges mass spawning whales, dragons, hydras, planes and tanks, ect. Which you guys have zero clue how they are still doing it, and they are still doing it because not even 24 hours ago they were spawning whales in I8 and changing the temperatures of M4 to -999. But there was no mention of it because the only post on it was mine, so they just buried it since a streamer didn't notice. God knows how much shit they spawned in that they just get to keep I guess.

But instead of fixing these issues, you keep nerfing everything to the floor.. I honestly dont get it and its starting to piss me the fuck off. Rant over.

Half the islands in the game are now dead

    Posted: 23 Jan 2019 11:20 PM PST

Alot of islands wont have a paste solution, some others won't have a solid alloy sollution.

Cant depend on ferrying in to build your base because your boat will just be offlined.

Calling it now a large portion of the patch is gonna get reverted.

Wtf? So all the bases are weaker now and also the cost of build/repair is higher? WHAT'S worng with you?

Offline raiding couldnt be more easy now.

What about those places without pure metal nodes?

What about those places without abundant fiber?

What about those places without honey?

    - Stone Structures crafting costs have been increased by adding metal cost, and changing fiber requirement to organic paste, which requires both fiber and sap to craft

Idiotic to increase the cost of and the damage taken by stone structures this much at once.

    Posted: 24 Jan 2019 12:48 AM PST

They did not even need a change in my opinion, but now it is completely useless unless you are a zerg spamming layers of walls with sap and fiber on the island. I can't believe this, no way in hell my small group will be able to hold anything now, idiotic devs.

9 shots from a medium cannon destroys a large stone gate. This patch sucks.

    Posted: 23 Jan 2019 11:46 PM PST

So... 9 shots from a medium cannon will now destroy a stone wall / large gate. That means most brigs can now one-shot their way through any stone structures.

I've loved every patch up until this point, but this patch is awful, and really needs to be walked back.

If you're going to make big ships able to freely ram smaller ships, then at least make smaller ships faster, as they should be.

    Posted: 24 Jan 2019 03:54 AM PST

Otherwise smaller class ships will never have a sporting chance against bigger ones. The bigger ships will just soak up a little projectile damage as they simply run over the smaller ones.

The stone Nerf could have been justified if the Devs communicated with their customers.

    Posted: 24 Jan 2019 03:58 AM PST

What would have been so hard about the devs saying something along the lines of:

Hey sailors- we realize stone structures are a vital part of your base defense, but there's a problem with how thry function with the game engine and in turn causes massive server lag due to render issues. In the meantime rather than wipe the game, we will need to adjust the way they're crafted until we can come up with a better solution. Blah blah blah.

Honestly this is what the devs need to work on if they plan on having this game in EA for 2 more years. If they just communicated with us it would prevent so much backlash from the community. C'mon devs

    Please Change Breeding

    Posted: 24 Jan 2019 06:38 AM PST

So I know everyone is up in arms about the Stone structure cost changes, I think they are quite ridiculous as well, and this post probably won't be seen but I just had to vent. But I just spent close to 24 hours trying to raise a Bear. So we have this breeding base on a Temperate island which as far as I can tell is whats best for Bear breeding due to it's temps being in the correct values MOST of the time. Well apparently in the 30 minutes it took me to take my child to school my bear died from Overheating, which I have an issue with by not being able to counter in anyway. Now I get Breeding can lead to powerful animals and that it needs to be an investment, but holy shit 24 fucking hours and I wasn't even half way done. I got up at 7 AM yesterday started the breeding got back on at 1130 AM when he was born and pretty much didn't get off the game until 0130 AM the next day when I slept for 2 and a half hours to get back up at 5 AM to keep watch over this bear. So I have a few Ideas on how to improve this, I don't know how hard it would be to make the changes but please do something.

    1. Give us a way to put the baby to sleep and pause the growth timer and keep it from dying from environmental issues. This keeps the time investment aspect of Breeding.
    2. Give the babies a bigger tolerance as they mature. Again this still maintains a time investment because you have to get it to a maturation level before it can be left on it's own, kinda like how at 10% it doesn't have to be hand fed anymore.
    3. Give the Baby AI Wander an option to seek or flee from heat/cold. This way you could create a pin with Fires going and the baby could walk a few steps away when it gets to hot or it could walk towards the fire when it gets cold. This would still maintain the time investment and require preparation on the breeders part. This would be more lifelike in the sense that animal don't tend to just stick their heads in a fire and go "Well Guess I'll die now".

TLDR; Breeding needs some sort of tweak to allow players with a normal life schedule to still enjoy this aspect of the game.

Galleons can now smash into brigs to do damage and won't take damage.

    Posted: 24 Jan 2019 06:39 AM PST

Ships can now only cause collision damage to ships their own size or smaller. So this change "seems" cool for sloops not being able to kill other ships. But it has a massive flaw and as such has been implemented horribly.

Now Galleons can literally go ram into a brig, cause a lot of collision damage and take no collision damage back. They are the new bulldozers of the sea.

This HAS to be Junior Developers at play. I can't believe that change would ever get past a Senior Developer who knows what they're doing unless there's something they're not telling us in the patch notes.

Did somebody have a stroke while making this patch?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2019 08:30 AM PST

Bases were weak, now they are butter. It would make sense if the new cost of stone was a new tier of structure, metal reinforced possibly. They litteraly have identicle costs of metal buildings in ark. Guess it's time to say fuck the base building, hide yo shit underwater and live on your boat and raid and pillage the coastline.
Might as well just take the whole construction tree out while your at it devs.

The stone change should have come AFTER the implementation of some sort of offline raiding protection...

    Posted: 24 Jan 2019 03:43 AM PST

I can't wrap my head around these changes unless they just want to clean up all the massive structures. Can we get some dev interaction here?

Another Stone Wall Thread By A Builder

    Posted: 24 Jan 2019 06:03 AM PST

After the ingredient changes for stone walls, I'm done. I hope other builders are done as well.

Every aspect of this game encourages zergs now. The devs are leaving nothing for the small companies to work with. 500+ hours in this game as a builder, and now everything that I enjoyed doing is now a pointless waste of time. The effort it takes to make stone isn't worth it.

Enjoy having no ship protection now, much less a base. And the moment a ship is made, someone is going to sink it in the off hours. I will. Because now I have nothing better to do with my time but float around sinking unguarded ships.

Structure damage changes and what needs to happen instead

    Posted: 24 Jan 2019 05:22 AM PST

For the uninitiated there was recently a patch that introduced the following changes among others

    • Increasing explosive damage to stone structures by 2.5x.
    • Increasing seige structure damage to stone structures by 60%

I understand what the development team is trying to do, on-island sieging has been a big issue and generally way too hard to accomplish, it was not impossible but it was way too tedious to be regularely done.

However it is definately being done the wrong way. So please, Jat. If you are reading this, do take the following notes from the community -

These changes need to happen incrementally, I would side with a change of maybe 20% or 30% but bumping it to 60% from no where is way to drastic, the argument could be made that the game is in EA and we are testing for balance - while this is a fair statement, testing can still be done incrementally and I thoroughly believe that these drastic changes will push players away from their game.

Right after the patch hit we immediately had people outside our base hitting it with cart cannons. 6 balls and the walls were down and we lost weeks of progress. It really is demoralising what has been done, the material costs of the building pieces is a huge issue for many but I believe the seiging changes is ultimately the biggest problem here.

It is not realistic for a game like this to require so little resource to destroy someones progress so easily.

Please, please - reconsider the way these changes are being made so that we can smooth into the phase and find a nice balancing point, playing the game in this seigeing state is extremely stressful and just not fun.

    Thank you for the read.

    ATLAS is a Sociopath Simulator

    Posted: 24 Jan 2019 08:44 AM PST

    From Psychology Today

Sociopathy What Is Sociopathy? Sociopathy is an informal term that refers to a pattern of antisocial behaviors and attitudes. In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), sociopathy is most closely represented by Antisocial Personality Disorder. Outwardly, those described as sociopaths may appear disturbed but can also show signs of caring, sincerity, and trustworthiness. In fact, they are manipulative, often lie, lack empathy, and have a weak conscience that allows them to act recklessly or aggressively, even when they know their behavior is wrong.

Although often used interchangeably, the terms "sociopath" and "psychopath" have somewhat different meanings. Someone who is characterized as a psychopath has no sense of right and wrong and is generally bolder, more manipulative, and more self-centered than a sociopath.

This explains a whole lot. Spare yourself the heartache and bail out now while you still can. The hackers, insiders, offline raids, and incompetent devs are not worth your sanity.

Atlas Devs pissing and calling it rain...

    Posted: 23 Jan 2019 11:11 PM PST

So an update rolled out tonight that made our stone structures cost metal, and organic paste. Because apparently making the game less hardcore, equals making it more! Seriously? Do y'all listen to your community or just do what you please and laugh as we bend over backwards trying to hang in there, believing that this game could be so much more. Then y'all do this shit and it becomes a shitshow of realization that yall don't give a fuck about your players. Okay, so let's say it IS about money. Then make things for the game that's bought for real cash. Like higher tames, special colored tames, skins, maybe special hair etc. But that only works if you listen to your community. Come on guys, y'all are better than this.
