    Official server Kraken bugs.

    Posted: 27 Jan 2019 12:38 AM PST

I would like to see what is being done to fix the bugs for the endgame of this game. We did our 4th real attempt on the kraken tonight and it just seems to keep doing things like this https://clips.twitch.tv/PopularCrackyMagePrimeMe . The fight itself is pretty simple it's just buggy. We have encountered 3 bugs. The first one we noticed is that the ships of the damned are invulnerable to player attacks. The second thing is that the game randomly kills everybody on your boat. The third is that the encounter will randomly sink ships with no known cause. For balance changes the knockback from the tentacles is frustrating, we have enough practice with it that it is possible to recover it's just annoying. The other thing that should be put in is an area where you know when the boss will pull if you cross it. I have a bunch of clips of random things just killing us. I heard a rumor that if I get 200 likes then somebody from grapeshot will respond to me. So please help :D

Stop things from falling through floors!!!

    Posted: 27 Jan 2019 03:32 AM PST

I am sure this will never change because there will probably be 100 people come in here saying it's been that way in ark forever. I have my base and taming pen built on stilts over the water so that I don't bother resource spawns. I would guess around 50% of the time when I login either me or one of my tames has fallen through the floor and is in the water, sometimes from 4 stories up.

Hey, could we get bookshelves added to Atlas? They were very useful in Ark, and would help with the clutter. Thanks devs.

Can we get a fix for tames dissapearing when using [move to "ship]

    Posted: 27 Jan 2019 09:33 AM PST

seriously do i need to get a new bear everytime you want me to sail out to get paste? it wouldnt be so bad to me if i didnt have to replace dinos constantly to them dissapearing off the boat.

i think it has something to do with the edges of the ship hull. Mounts do some strange things where sometimes they turn upside down when walking near it.

Consent Crashing at startup of server

    Posted: 27 Jan 2019 07:54 AM PST

So the game is constantly crashing after logging into the server zone. I get has far as seeing my hands and maybe surroundings before it just boots out of the game. I have to log in pumplte times until one of the times it sticks and than the game runs fine never crashes after successful attempt. I have tried multiple things and seems low memory will work faster but still requires multiple tries. This is a strange problem

Is there something wrong with monstrous whale spawns? can't find them anymore

    Posted: 27 Jan 2019 04:20 AM PST

Hey, for 3 days(I think it was when patch 16.0? hit) I haven't been able to find any monstrous whales anymore. I was encountering at least 2 per day before that. Did they mention anything somewhere that I might've missed that they reduced the spawn to almost 0% ?

    Giraffe needs aoe thatch gather!

    Posted: 26 Jan 2019 06:10 PM PST

I can hit beasts at a 90 degree angle to either side, but in a group of trees I hit 1 tree at a time and only gather 18-25 thatch at a time. Why is this?

Surviving the atlas: A short guide for small companies and solo players who want their pvp.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2019 05:51 PM PST

Do you for one reason or another you don't wanna be part of a massive company? Rebuilding every day driving you insane? Dreading coming home from work every day to find your land taken, your base in ruin, your ship at the bottom of the sea and your prized pets slaughtered? You want vengence, you want to pillage and burn, but by the time you finally built back up it's time to get off. If these aren't you don't bother reading any further. However if they are I might possibly have the solution for you.

1:Give up on owning land and building a base. It's not gonna happen and if it does you won't last the night.

2: build a small boat in a Freeport or if you can find a small sliver of land do it there. Ran with schooners first now with Brigs.

3: find a little spot to call home there's loads of teeny little islands and atols, even shallows work. At this spot claim it and hide beds everywhere. Closer to a Freeport spawn for security is nice.

4: swim deep real deep place a little Piller a 1x1 wood structure or a few and hide all your shit in a resource box at the bottom of the ocean. Trust me nobody will find it if you do it right you might not be able to even find it again.

5: raid the shit out of everyone. Online offline who cares. Just don't pick a fight you can't win.

6: take your loot back to your secret spot.

7: rinse and repeat, be a real pirate show no mercy take no prisoners. Cause hell nobody will to you.

8: sail home sink your boat. Demo the whole thing every time you get off. This ensures your boat won't be sunk over night and your loot won't accidently be found by sombody demoing it in the night. And also you get half your stuff back. Getting back and having half a boat is a hell of a lot better than no boat. And finally hide yourself in a bush or even better just kill yourself.

The Biggest Problem With Atlas Isn't Dragons

    Posted: 26 Jan 2019 07:29 PM PST

Let me preface this by saying that I am coming at this from a design perspective; I am not here to critique performance.

The biggest problem with Atlas and further more Ark has always been lack of counterplay. I see constant posts about how OP dragons are, how cancer alpha predators are to play against, or how gliders and fire arrows are ruining pvp. This is simply due to them adding something cool into the game without first giving a thought as to how they will interact with everything else in the game. So I will break down how each of these examples have been rushed and not well thought out.

    • The Dragon is one of the most talked about subjects in this game at the moment. This god of a creature sports health in 5 or 6 digits, unreal speed, and a breath that can bring down the mightiest ship. So let's say your opponent has access to this beast and turns it your way. What do you do? Surely you can get a few good men and if you are skilled enough and manage to stay safe then you can take it down with concerted effort of gunpowder and artillery. Nope. The counterplay is waiting it out and its prohibitively high cost. This problem is very much in Ark as well; most high level creatures, rexs and gigas, have very little counterplay outside of your own rexs and gigas.

    • alpha creatures and honestly creatures in general don't feel like challenges, they just feel like hp pools with teeth. These animals don't do anything special and for most animals the answer for how to kill them is the same, kite it into a cliff and shoot it. This is exploitation of poor AI not counterplay. Right now if any predator finds you there is a good chance you are just going to straight up die, even fully kitted out. There is a system in place for combat, why not use this system in an innovative way? Instead of making predator just run up and hit you make it do left or right swipes that you block or dodge. Give players a way to skill their way out rather than cheese there way out of encounters.

    • Gliders, fire, and pvp balance is really hit or miss in this game. The fact that a person can glide entire tiles and then hold in their inventory the ability to sink an entire ship in itself is broken. There are aspects of this game that really shine such as ship combat, and getting into prolonged gun fights around forts is fantastic, but a lot of the possibilities in other areas are lost. Melee combat is a joke in pvp, hit registry even on stationary targets seems to be nonexistent as well as the fact that there really is no way to ever catch someone using a firearm if you wanted to close the distance. Right now pvp outside of ships is just run around with ranged weapons and wild fire until someone has landed enough shots. Some things need to be rethinked, such as adding in a limited duration on gliding, some things need to be retooled, such as adding a lighting time on fire arrows, and other things need to be completely rebuilt, such as melee-ranged interactions.

Pretty much how I would like to sum this up is, don't let Atlas devolve into a one size fits all approach like in Ark. There should different ways to handle different situations rather than just having 2 rexs chomp on each other for 10 minutes until 1 runs out of health. Ark suffers from years upon years of power creep and very sparse rebalancing, so it has gotten to the point where everything has unreal health pools and no way to get through those health pools. A cannon ball should break through an animal's body as easily as it does a plank, don't let it get like Ark where it takes dozens of rpgs to kill a giga. I would just like to implore Grapeshot, please think about how your cool ideas will interact with the game and how players can play against those cool ideas.

\- Old "permanently unlocked" Power Stone Artifacts are removed (it was a bug that they were, some weeks ago, granted as a permanent character default item)

This should be kept as is?
