    Atlas Unbound

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 08:31 AM PST

Ahoy Atlas Community! Welcome to Atlas Unbound. The first Unofficial, full 15x15 grid Atlas server (as far as we know!). Are you tired of unplayable ping? Tired of sailing the oceans far and wide in search of a claimable plot of land, only to realize that none exist? Did you get used to the 2.5x rates of the launch event and wish it was permanent? If so, give Atlas Unbound a shot! This post is an effort to gain a sense of interest for a privately hosted, full 15x15 grid, 2.5x rate Unofficial server. We are currently in the process of spinning up all of the necessary servers and configuring the maps and rates. We will likely move into testing in the coming weeks. Atlas Unbound aims to provide a more enjoyable experience than the official servers by having a much lower player cap, and a ton of quality of life improvements (meaning land will be more plentiful and ping will be lower). We estimate that our system will be capable of connecting at least ~17,000 players simultaneously, with significantly lower ping than on Official. Additionally, our team is coming up with some really cool tools to add on to the existing functionality of the game, including offline company communication, custom discord bots and much more. It's also important to mention that the servers will be region locked.

We are looking for talented people to join our ranks. From Web Designers, Moderators, to Mod Developers. If you feel like you could be a great part of this team please send your resume and/or portfolio to [AtlasUnboundServers@gmail.com](mailto:AtlasUnboundServers@gmail.com). Our servers are run completely off donations and patreons. We do this because we love gaming and communities to game with! Come check us out! See below for a list of servers that will be coming online in the next few weeks.

    Server List:

The Atlas Unbound project aims to provide an unparalleled level of server performance, stability and support to a game we all love. Our team is dedicated to making sure that the user experience is as excellent as it possibly can be. All of our servers are privately hosted with enterprise-class equipment and a 1Gb/1Gb fiber line. With that mission statement in mind, take a look at the servers we plan host.

    15x15

That's right. We're hosting the full map, as it was intended. Quality server performance and tightly controlled access--US/EU/Oceanic only-- mean that the gaming experience compared to official is hands down better. Our full sized map can accommodate up to 16,875 simultaneous players and is made up of 225 servers in a cluster (one per grid). The majority of zones are PvP, however mixed throughout there are a few PvE zones intended to be used as player made trading hubs. The 15x15 server will feature 2.5x increased rates as well. These servers are going to be switched to Linux Server once stable, and are thus a work in progress.

    4x4

The 4x4 servers we host will be capable of handling up to 1200 players simultaneously, and are made up of 16 servers in a cluster (one per grid). The maps are custom made by our team, and are a blast to play on. All of our 4x4 servers will be set to 3x official rates and will be completely PvP. Time to live out those pirate fantasies on the high seas! Our 4x4s are also currently being used for us to test and develop custom APIs and mods.

    2x2

Our 2x2 servers will be PvP oriented with small player-bases. Tribes will be limited in size, so that fair play is a given. 3x official rates means that time is spent enjoying the game, rather than farming. The 2x2s will be capable of a maximum of 300 simultaneous players, and are made of a cluster of 4 servers (one per grid). These servers are also currently being used to test and develop custom APIs and mods.

    1x2

Finally we have our 1x2 event servers. These servers will only be live during special events that we put on, and will be specifically designed for large scale, 75v75 battles with a red vs blue mod enabled. The servers will be split into two grids, and rates will be massively increased to allow for fast paced, high energy PvP ocean battles! The maps are custom made for engaging game-play, and each event will have a new map. Every time we run one of these events, all of our 1x2 servers will be made live at once. Come join the fun and help build a unique gaming experience!

An awesome voyage I had today

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 08:24 AM PST

Thanks to the storm cyclone spawn chance reduction, I've experienced the best sailing and combat scenario today on NA PVE.

I sailed my schooner out for a treasure map next grid.

With the wave knocking my ship towards different direction, forcing me to constantly adjust my course, I finally have the feel of sailing in bad weather.

Fighting against the WAVE instead of dodging annoying homing cyclones.

After the storm, I was left immediately in a thick fog in the middle of the night. With nothing but only pitch black in front of me.

Cruising in the fog with occasion glow of the flotsam passing the side of my ship, and all of a sudden, an exceptionally huge green glow emerge from the fog dead ahead!

The moment I realize what it was, the SotD already fired. I kited it and fight it with my only two chaser guns.

Until the sun stared to shine through the fog.

After I gave it a final blow, the fog was also gone, than I noticed a Brig coming my way as I turned my ship to gather the loot.

It sailed pass me and through voice chat the captain greeted me a nice job, he was gonna help with the fight if I couldn't manage.

It was exactly this kind of experience I hope to get from playing Atlas.

Although now the game is still riddled with bugs and issues that frustrate us a lot, this voyage gave me the joy to continue playing.

Ark was getting content updates every week... ATLAS will get it's first content update 2 months after launch and it is mainly cosmetics -_- Also the PvP in ATLAS is fun only when doing ship vs ship (but sadly that's a really small part of the game)

Alliance/Coalition Influence Map [10.02.2019] NA PVP

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 05:26 AM PST

If we had a freeport bank, land would be a luxury, not a necessity.

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 07:20 AM PST

They could even add freeport shipyards to build your boat, say 1 hour time limit to finish your boat. Which the pieces youve been saving to make are safely stashed in your bank.

Giving solo players a way to have some fun, and wiped companies a way to come back and take land!

Dont forget the funnest part of this game is ship vs ship pvp. And this would create alot more traffic.

People would sail from land to land collecting mats and trying to get back to a freeport. To trade or build that special item bp they been saving.

Make Ships of the Damned Worth a Lot More Gold

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 12:52 AM PST

    1. This is a pirate game where we should fight more at sea.
    2. We need more at sea to fight over.
    3. Nobody fights over SOTD because they are mostly worthless. I use them to get quick levels on new ships and that's about it.
    4. Anyone who wants gold spends most of their time outside of their ship, hunting treasure on a bear.

I propose SOTD drop something like 100 x level in gold. Maybe it needs to even be more than that to compete with maps. The end goal should be that people see a SOTD and flock to kill it. And maybe each other. In ships. Because pirate game.

Are sunken ships configurable on private servers?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 11:27 AM PST

Or are they just randomly placed no matter your cluster config settings? Can't seem to find any info on if this is configurable or not. Assuming they just happen automatically.

Dark Maelstrom Gaming (3x5) 10x G/T/XP PvPvE 2/1. Expanding to 5x5 within the week.

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 10:37 AM PST

Server ran by admins who work in IT. They've built the server from the ground up and manage server issues meticulously. All updates and changes to the server are announced in discord in a patch note style post and you can all ways chat with them directly for clarification. All changes are made in small increments to insure against unintended and disastrous results. A few minor tweaks left to be made but 90% of the game is dialed in with just the endgame content needed values touched up. Server will be expanding from a 5x3 to a 5x5 within a week or less. Tere are currently 1 home server, 5 pve servers and 9 pvp servers. Adjusted SOTD and flotsam values, adjusted material stack limits and resource weight. I am not an admin on this server or connected to the admin company. The admins are meticulous about not taking advantage of their position. All admin commands are broadcast-ed throughout all servers, they will not ally with any other companies and are an older group who aren't by any means hot headed. So far it seems 75% of the server population is 30 and up. I post this in effort to help in growing the server population. I'll get the server owners to put up a post with the exact values for the adjustment later today if the have time (they're configuring the new servers). I'll be in discord for most of the day, pop in if you have any questions.

    [Video] CSTG Hacking Highlight Compilation

    Posted: 09 Feb 2019 04:24 PM PST

    Hey guys,

I made a post while defending a raid regarding CSTG hacking. Guess that post is deleted, but I will respond there to people who wanted evidence with a link to this thread.

This is the highlight video of CSTG engaging in widespread hacking during a raid on a lawless island.

    https://youtu.be/seTxFpbB17M

Edit: To be clear, I am mainly pointing out the hacking of the person in the last clip, who is also the person who eventually kills me in pretty much any fight the entire night. He is also the main person who gets kills on all my teammates. Some of the other people I'm fighting are obviously bad and not hacking. In a few situations, it is clear to me at least that there are others, not just the main hacker, who are indeed hacking. I will add a full-length VOD once I can. It has some awesome fun PvP in it.

It is important to note that I actively try to avoid getting killed by hackers when I recognize them. So I am spending a lot of effort and time simply trying to avoid situations where they can get me. This means the overall number of instances I encounter are much smaller than others who may not be particularly active in avoiding situations where they will be killed off (some of my teammates fall into this category). I've fought hackers for a long time in many different games and I consider it a part of online gaming that needs to be dealt with as a good player, so I'm always cognizant of it happening.

The main player who I could recognize for their hacking - you can see it in the kill feed. I won't post the name here so this post can stay up without issue. There are others, like the one guy using some invisibility hack to kill AI on the top of our building roof.

We saw aimbot, ESP, and invisibility. The last clip shows invisibility but maybe it was some teleport? I'm not sure how he appears out of nowhere.

I did a rough cut so it goes right from one clip to the next. One clip is of my teammates talking about the invisible guy on the roof killing AI.

For context, we raided "CSTG ???" a day or so earlier in territory control. Towards the end of the raid, the main hacking player (noted in this highlight video) showed up from CSTG and began headshotting us, even while we were under water and so on. We didn't record at this time, it was our first encounter with hacking in Atlas. This prompted us to despawn all the loot from the raid and end the raid, as his aimbotting from rock-tops and ESP usage made it impossible to push or retreat when we were operating on a TC island with little infrastructure (we found one build-enabled flag and made beds there to operate).

So when we saw this guy's name in this raid, we knew what we were in for, and after a couple deaths to him I decided to record it all.

For more context, we found this guy's VOD after the raid (we have someone in the alliance who can speak Chinese) and this is some of the video of the raid. Not sure how much is captured here. https://v.douyu.com/show/X3JzMaJGw8NWPQro (Chinese website, translate makes it a bit more tolerable). This is one of the big leaders of CSTG, showing this hacking is condoned all the way to the top.

We are still loving Atlas, it is an amazing game. I rarely care enough to post something like this. I've never spent a whole day editing video (the larger video of the entire raid, I edited out death maps to conceal bases we have in other zones as well as beds we have) and making a highlight video of hacking. Atlas is good, and this kind of thing ruins the game for a lot of people. We have people who just don't want to put up with this kind of thing - I have to remind them, hacking is something that will always exist in online gaming. The only thing we can rely upon are those who hold more power than the hackers - the devs. So far, I've heard good things come from dev responses to hacking in Atlas. I agree with the actions they have taken.

Aimbotting/ESP are the hardest hacks to detect, because it is all client-side and it is reading memory, not manipulating it. Your client knows where all nearby players are, but they might be behind walls and so on where you cannot see them, so ESP reveals those players without modifying the client's code at all - just reading RAM for the data. Aimbotting is similar, because it is just aligning your cursor with the target, as if you made the shot yourself. These are things which are very difficult to detect let alone find evidence of. What I've gathered is more than I expected. Because hacking cannot be eradicated from online gaming, the only solution is justice from the developers.

I have approximately 189 health for reference of damage etc.

    Some breakdown of the clips:

    • 1. Aimbot while walking up the hill. Again shot (with a pistol) while gliding from that position.
    • 2. Knocked out the hacker - you can see he tries to fire even though there's obviously no shot behind the mortar.
    • 3. Teammate gets shot mid-glide. Not hard evidence - I got one of these shots on a guy that night who was gliding towards me, but they were moving perfectly straight and level, not at an angle.
    • 4. Teammates talking about invisible guy on roof who is killing AI (sets up the last clip).
    • 5. I set up a mortar uncontested after being away from the location for a while. Main hacker falls to his death trying to kill me with his aimbot (he did this to a teammate the day before, also missing, guess falling has some effect on accuracy). Another guy gets a headshot on me on the side of the mountain. Finally the hacker is alive back up top and headshots me.
    • 6. Shot hits the door. Possible headshot by hacker while running off cliff.
    • 7. Jumping and turning to avoid shots and get headshot from hacker.
    • 8. Climb up the cliff after existing in the lower area unmolested for a bit and immediately get headshot.
    • 9. Last clip showing invisibility + aimbot + the fact that hackers are garbage at gaming as usual.

Thanks for watching and for your support!

A4 conveniently down for a while now, while Dynasty is under attack?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 07:58 AM PST

I'm neutral in this, but this is something the devs should definitely investigate.

There is no sufficient proof yet that they indeed ddos'ed it, but it's suspicious and needs to be investigated with the server host. DDoS'ing a server when you're losing should NOT become the new meta, like it was in ARK.

The devs should show a firm stance on it, if there's enough reason to believe it was DDoS attack. Otherwise, this may become the new plague in this game.

OwO and BLDX fought on capped 200 player servers. Yet A4 somehow can't support 50 players?

Unlike many here, there's only a few things currently that bug me. Here's MY list of things to change!

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 07:30 AM PST

I've been playing for a few weeks, and think I have a general handle of the game. However, I play on a private server, and so the experience is radically different. So, instead of gripes about PvP balance, hordes of chinese, hackers, bots, and the like, my complaints are simple.

Aging and hair growth happen waaaaay too fast. Cut your hair, and have full length locks within the hour. That's a pain. I've read that from 20 to death is supposed to be 3 months. I'm halfway to 90 in 2 weeks. That's pretty ridiculous. Plus, only a years worth of ingame days have passed. This bugs me.

Ships of the damned are so common, its hard to just enjoy sailing, and fishing up those crates, or fishing from the ship in general. How are we supposed to combat each other when the apocalypse has pretty much already occurred? They have 3 ships to every one we venture out with! Sucks the fun from the game, enjoyment of the atmosphere, and detracts from our ability to even do many of the possible ocean based activities.

Tornadoes. Seriously, fuck tornadoes. a handful spaced out respectably would be ok, but giant walls of twisters that are unavoidable and seemingly suck you into them? Who came up with that idea? Hang them and shoot them. Then cut out his tongue and trim that scraggly beard he has. Not only is it irritating from a gameplay perspective, it's irritating in that it lags the hell out of the player, so they can't even respond to the tornadoes fast enough to hope to avoid them. It's like the purpose of them is more to lag the player than offer an actual challenge.

Otherwise, I love the game. It's been great. The people I play with are generally awesome. I also don't see the games link, and basis, in Ark as a bad thing. It's made the number of things possible just amazing. My company has a dock that can be dropped into the water to allow ships over! We run an entire island, and deal in weapons and escort services. So, while I see the point many other have made about certain balance issues, my experience shows that outside of the official servers, the game is very fun.

Also, TheXPGamers talked about this last point in a video he put on youtube. the age of the super massive MMO on a singular megalithic server world may be over. Atlas has given us all the ability to create the game environment as we see fit, and shape it to our tastes. After having experienced the game this way, I would give it a positive review. Still needs work, its early access. Tweaks are a perpetual thing there, and constructive feedback is a must.

Just my overly wordy 2 cents this cold morning!

This is the big patch we need

    Posted: 10 Feb 2019 11:47 AM PST

Devs this is the big patch we need

Melee weapons - Add more 1 handed and 2 handed weapons - Balance melee weapon damage to be more viable in combat

Auto turrets - remove cannons from cargo saddle or prevent npc controlled cannons on saddle - make npcs not aimbots / decrease accuracy - same with ship cannons - give companies a reason to use players shooting cannons instead of npc, but not nerfed so bad that a solo captain cant have any fun. (Maybe an accuracy bonus for player manned cannons / reload speed?)

Tames - Give cargo saddle its own inventory/weight limit that a tame can haul. Does not reduce weight but allows more to be hauled per trip. - fix feeding zones on tames to be more realistic

Companies / Claims - Reduce company size limit to reduce mega tribes. Smaller companies = more competition = more action - Allow only 3 claim flags per person. Atlas needs more players. More players = more competition = more fun. More strategy needed when opposing companies cannot claim entire server clusters - Fast travel needs a cooldown, and a even longer cooldown to beds that are not yours. Sailing should be the main way to travel not fast traveling everywhere. Atlas is a big world and it should feel that way.

Ships - Anchored ships should have a defensive buff that starts 15mins after logging. Anchored in your claim zone should grant an additional defense buff added ontop. (Offline raiding should exist, but should be more difficult / time consuming) - PVP ships should be able to be 100% stolen - we're pirates after all. - SOTD / other player ships should be salvageable by other players, items and materials (makes diving suit / submarine more useful) - Brig and Gal should cost much more materials with defense scaling with cost.

Random quality of life improvements - npc gold usage displayed on ships - skill trees cleaned up - knots meter when sailing to have a way of seeing speed -respec craftable item (cooking tree?)

Most importantly - prove out these concepts for a few weeks, announce server wipe, gain new players / regain old players back and hopefully have a thriving game again.
