    Concerning Public Accusations: A Reminder

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 08:40 PM PST

    Hello Atlas community!

We wanted to remind everyone of the current policy concerning public accusations since this issue has come up a number of times in the past couple days:

Remember to be considerate about your posts. Avoid spamming and flooding. Public accusations are ONLY allowed if video evidence is provided. Discord screenshots are not permitted, as they are so easily faked.

The purpose behind this rule is to ensure that players are able to voice concern about game-ruining issues like large amounts of cheating, but to also ground discussion in only real-case issues that you can demonstrate with solid proof, all while avoiding creating doxxing or safety concerns for anyone involved to also honor Reddit's Content Policy.

The moderator team also highly encourages you to report any issues you encounter directly to the developers through established feedback channels. While we want to be a place where you can vent frustrations within the constraints of our rules and provide feedback in the form of posts here so these issues can be discussed, we also need to emphasize that the importance of direct feedback! In other words, both kinds of feedback are essential to improving the game experience, so don't neglect also touching base with developers through their established channels.

A State of the Subreddit post will be coming soon as well. As always, we do appreciate any feedback or suggestions, as all of us want to see the Atlas community thrive and be a fun place for everyone involved!

Edit: We also noticed there is a misunderstanding concerning who the moderator team actually is, so to be clear: we are not Atlas devs, just fans of the game! That means this is a fan-led community. The Atlas devs do read the subreddit to some extent it seems since they do comment and post from time to time.

With regards to feedback and especially major issues like cheating, it's just not a direct feedback system to make a post here (though we do welcome such posts as long as they pass our minimum criteria for containing video proof and not mentioning Reddit usernames or other information that can lead to harassment or brigades). So Atlas devs might see your post, they might not, but one way you can be more sure they're aware of your issue is by telling them directly through their established channels.

    Happy Sailing!

    People are quitting in droves.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 09:33 AM PST

It occurred to me that this is likely because once companies are taken down, there's no buffer for them to be able to recover after being hit. They can just keep being griefed and pinned down so they can't recover. Maybe there needs to be some sort of timer so that a group can't be hit for X amount of time so they can rebuild somewhere?

Normally I wouldn't care but people are uninstalling in droves after being smashed. At some point there's gonna be a major war and nobody left to fight. Then what?

The difference between this game an Ark, was it was a lot more of a logistical issue to go server to server to attack and took more time, and gave you distance in most cases to recover afterwards as tribes would usually leave after they wrecked you. These companies we smash here don't really have that because we get notification when they're in our areas and we have incentive to keep the land we conquered to rent out to gain riches via taxation.

Alliance/Coalition Influence Map [08.02.2019] NA PVP

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 05:10 AM PST

I understand that cheats were allowed in ATLAS. I thought so because of the complete ignoring of problems with cheaters and their attacks on large tribes.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 01:39 AM PST

Dear ATLAS developers. I ask you to finally allow the official use of cheats for ALL players since you have already closed your eyes for two weeks to the impudent game of a couple of people who are simply demolishing strong zero tribe with the help of software.

P.S. I hope everyone understood this message. This is a complete horror. For 15 years I have never seen such arrogant cheaters in different MMO games. It should be stopped or everyone will sit down on the software and there will be a war of cheaters against cheaters, look at this online, every day it falls because of such attacks from one famous tribe of cheaters and their followers. Even rotten copies of the Korean banned of such nonhumans maximum a day after the violation, and here this nightmare almost from the start of the so-called alpha version. And do not say here that this is Early Access, not a single team of normal developers would allow such a shame and negative hype around their project, even on the first day of early access.

Can we like i dunno.. Get a faster way to check where all those claims are happening???

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 05:54 AM PST

Currently to check where a claim event is happening we have to:

1 hurry and take a screenshot when the message appears

2 alt tab out of the game and browse to the folder where the screenshots are stored and open the last one

3 grab a notepad/phone and note down the coordinates

4 alt tab back into the game and open the compass map.

5 press N and type in the coordinates from the notepad/phone

6 open the atlas map and find the tag

Is that how it's going to stay in a game all about claiming? When can we expect a faster way?

Thanks that you put flairs. but I asked if it was possible to have a flair for PVP and one for PVE. So when you are specifically talking about PVE you can tag it.

with a PVP/PVE flair together it accomplishes nothing.

[Suggestion] [PVP] Make anchored ships behave like they're in a shipyard.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 03:10 AM PST

I believe this would be a simple solution to the boat griefing that is so prevalent in Atlas currently. People constantly run trash boats down harbors, or find a blind spot to come in and oil/flame arrow planks off to fully destroy boats. I think the community at large views this as a massive problem for Atlas.

Ships that have been anchored after a certain timer, say 30 minutes to an hour, should behave like they're dry docked in a shipyard. You can still raid them. You can still rip planks off, but the attackers wont be able to basically naked grief harbors. For lawless, passers by will not be incentivized to do more then just open a hole so they can loot your maps etc that you left on it.

For all of you who think the Atlas devs are bad: trust me, it could be MUCH worse.

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 11:41 AM PST

TL:DR = Daybreak was a terrible company that horribly mismanaged Just Survive and the Atlas developers on their worst day are about a billion times better, so it could be much worse folks.

I endured the developers of H1Z1's survival game, Just Survive, so I think it's pretty funny all the people complaining about this game. I'm not hating on you, because I know how you feel. You want the game to be fun and to succeed and you're frustrated that isn't happening.

In Just Survive you were lucky if you got any kind of content update or bug fix once every 3 months. The developer's main contact with the players was the subreddit, which sounds OK except that the fans running the subreddit abused their power so that only the ideas and suggestions they liked saw the light of day, and their ideas were terrible. Also H1Z1 as most of you know was the game that really birthed the God awful BR genre that has completely taken over gaming nowadays. Daybreak saw that cash cow and kept putting resources into BR and ignoring the core survival game they'd originally set out to make, all they cared about was making crate money, everything else be damned.

They were these masochistic type of survival players, all of you who are survival veterans know these types of idiots. The ones who want the game to be "hardcore" So they wanted no food or water on the whole map, no guns, no ammo. They wanted all the enemies (Wolves/Bears/Zombies) to be super powerful, to be able to kill you basically just by thinking about you from across the map. They basically wanted the game to be as miserable as their lives so that everyone would be as miserable as them.

So if you had an idea that was contrary to any of that or anything they didn't like they'd find a way to ban you or delete your post. My favorite was them shadowbanning you so you didn't even know you were banned, so you'd keep posting and commenting only to find out you'd wasted days because no one could hear you. This wouldn't have been so bad if, like with Atlas, there were developer run ways to contact the devs. But Daybreak deleted their forums early on, so the only real way to communicate with them was the player-run subreddit. Player-run subreddits are fine, but they should never, EVER be the only way to communicate with your player base. I had a small chat with Jat the other day on twitter, and he heard my suggestion and acknowledged that he'd get to it in the future. That never happened with Daybreak.

Also, with Just Survive all of the servers were developer run and there were no mods, so hackers just ran rampant and there was no way to stop them because Daybreak didn't give a shit. The only reason they'd ban people is so they'd spend another $20 coming back to the game. Asian cheaters were just as big of a problem as Atlas, but the difference is in Just Survive you didn't have player run servers you could escape to. As I said there were no mods either so your choices were "play the game the way the devs want you to" or "play the game the way the devs want you to."

The developers also almost never listened to feedback from their player base, which regardless of what you think of the Atlas devs they've done many times, case in point is towards the end of Just Survive's run they replaced the original map, known as Z1 with a 1/4 finished piece of shit map known as Badwater Canyon (BWC). Where Z1 was a mostly Urban map that was loved by most of the community BWC was basically a forest and an empty canyon, with some buildings thrown in as an afterthought. If they'd just released BWC as another map, fine but they got rid of the map the vast majority of the player base knew and loved. Also, as I said it released originally only one quarter done. And, the biggest change of all, instead of allowing you to build your base wherever you wanted BWC made it so there were premade plots of land that you had to buy with coins and you could only build there. Imagine if they did something like that in Atlas...

So player numbers, which were already low because of all the stupidity of the devs and management of Daybreak, fell off a cliff and the players revolted, and for months the dev team refused to admit they made a mistake. They kept BWC and the changes to building (and also raiding with this idiotic raid timer and siren and buildings somehow magically repairing themselves) and the numbers dropped. Finally after the player numbers got down into the triple digits they brought back Z1 and allowed you to play both maps and scrapped the plot system, though they kept the new build system which I actually liked but most people hated.

Finally, Just Survive died in October of 2018. I could go on and on about how terrible Daybreak was, and how they destroyed what had the potential to be the greatest survival game of all time, but this post is already almost as long as my johnson. So suffice it to say: It could be much, MUCH worse folks.

Bug with NPCs when crossing server walls.

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 06:52 PM PST

Don't know of any other way of submitting bugs, so I put it here.

The NPCs forget their secondary assignments every time the ship crosses server walls and after some server updates / restarts. This makes the intended idea of commanding NPCs between different stations extremely tedious and impractical. Please fix.

    Thank you.

Side note. I found that loading animals from the back of the brig almost always gets them stuck and killed under the ship. Load them from the side.

    The solution to "offlining" ships

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 02:32 PM PST

There isn't one, however a real problem i've noticed is what I call "harbor ratting". With characters that can breath under water for 8 minutes, swim kilometers worth of space, enemy ships that don't render till they are 150m away, and snap-part buildings that always leave holes, climbing picks, grapple hooks, and 11 damage from a puckle gun through plate mail. Its literally impossible to make an impenetrable harbor while you're offline. The solution is to be online, or join a company that will have someone online 24/7. but what about those times where someone sneaks in undetected and throws a keg on your ship, "rework kegs".. k what about fire jars/arrows "uhh.. we nerfed fire a bit"

The solution is to have a lookout always watching over your harbor, theres just one problem, **THATS FUCKING BORING AS HELL** No one wants to do that, and have you tried actually getting people to do it? Thats not good gameplay. Now, we're supposed to be officers in this company and the NPC's are the rank-and-file. If only the game had some kind of system where you could.. pay like, gold, or something, to have an NPC accomplish certain task... Ohh they can man cannons or sails? or repair anchored ships. Say, thats pretty good.

How about an NPC lookout, you can have a lookout station or rework the wooden chair. When an enemy player enters their covered zone, "Lookout has spotted a suspicious figure in (set name of lookout post)" After that player spends 30 seconds in the covered zone "Lookout identified Dick baggins from the harbor ratt greif gang at (set name of lookout post)"

Theres a ship in the lookouts covered zone... "Lookout reports that the Ramshackle galleon (brigantine) is leaking!"

This pops across the screen in red like if someone in your company died.

Now, if you don't have anyone online, this won't do you any good, but it will atleast stop the "online" greifing made possible by shitty defenses and render distances.

    Whales

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 07:23 AM PST

I seem to remember reading somewhere that whales grant discovery points when killed the first time, no?

I play on a 3x3 unofficial with 57 total discovery points. At the time of our engagement with a Monstrous Blue last night I had 35 discovery points with a max level of 59. After its death, neither of these changed at all. Is this just a bug or have I misunderstood how whales work?

    Make light houses useful

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 05:25 PM PST

Make them protect anchored ships in their radius (one per island per company) after they have been anchored for 15 minutes. This disables cannons and access to storage boxes.

Make them shine a spotlight on any ally or company item taking damage from anything other than wildlife.

This will make disabling the lighthouse the first step in any good invasion. While also preventing half assed random "oh look a ship" attacks and focuses the PVP more towards online player vs player siege warfare.
