Can we get a speed increase on reversing? Posted: 20 May 2019 04:36 AM PDT One of the most agonizing things about this game is going out and doing stuff then having to spend 5 minutes backing the ship in because it goes .2 knots. Especially when you had crap wind and had to leave to do something 10 minutes ago. I don't care if it's a flat increase across the board or if it's a captaineering tree feat that takes 100% of my stamina for a 5s buff. We need something here that is faster for this. Review / Recommended Improvements (WARNING: LONG POST) Posted: 20 May 2019 09:51 AM PDT Hello all, I would like to provide some feedback to the developers and would like to know your thoughts on my ideas as well. I have been playing games since the Atari came out (i'm old) and spent a good majority of my early 20's as a professional gamer (before it was the cool thing to do). I am also a hobbyist when it comes to 3d modeling, level design and programming. I have experience playing pretty much every current survival game and to be honest - it's kind of my favorite genre at the moment. So let's dive into it! I played Atlas since launch up until the end of January. At first I was part of a small company and eventually joined a mega. The mega got boring real fast due to the restrictions on who we could or couldn't attack and we didn't feel like going 4+ grids away to kill freely so we eventually left the mega company. We all felt like we exhausted everything to do in the game and moved on to other games. I returned post wipe as a solo player and am surprised at what has or hasn't changed. COMMUNICATION: Communication is important in a business. Ease of receiving that information is the most important of all. Yes you guys release patch notes but you should list those changes on the title screen. The details of the patches need to have more information as well. This game is early access - therefore we are your testers. I need full, clear and open communication if i'm going to help you. There was an exploit? Tell me what the exploit was.. in detail. How did it work? If I have this information, I can try to recreate it through other processes and help you guys fix more bugs. A lot of people complain that you don't address things immediately or at least say that you are addressing things immediately. I'm glad you haven't succumbed to their cries because I, like othes know, that you're handling it. I don't need you to tell me that you're fixing something because in this day and age.. your social media is probably blowing up the second something is discovered and you're being scrutinized. This game is your time and effort and you want it to succeed. I know you're working the issues. COST vs REWARD One of the mechanics that has bothered me in every survival game is that it always seems to favor the raider. A concept like this is fine in a game like Rust where there are constant wipes. Games like Ark or Atlas where large groups of people are heavily favored it doesn't work. You have mechanics in this game that require a long term commitment. Breeding, taming, ships and blueprints all require a significant time investment. It does not take much to destroy all of these things. As an example, just last night I got bored and spawned on a lawless island. Within the hour I had raided 2 stone bases and previously had zero footprint on this island. It was as easy as finding an open furnace, making ingots, using the raided smithy to make 2 ship cannons (super cheap things to make) and placing them on wooden foundations. During the 20 minute cooldown after placing them, I grinded metal, coal and flint to make cannon balls. 20 minutes of farming during a 2x weekend and I had enough cannon balls to foundation wipe 2 stone bases. Granted, these were just farming outposts for larger tribes and they most certainly had people online, just not in this grid. It should not be this easy. Recommended fix: Lower the cost of stone (remove the metal cost FFS.. that should have never been added). Leave the HP and everything as it is for it. Just lower the cost. Add a new building material - reinforced stone. Increase resource cost and add ingots as a required material. This new building material needs to be really strong and take minimal damage from cannons. Make it so that it can only be damaged by explosives (not grenades or spikeshot). Increase the cost of ship cannons or make it soethat a ship cannon can only be placed on a ship and large cannons can only be placed on land. TAMES Sure, everyone likes collecting tames and it's a nice mechanic but it doesn't have a place in this game. I think this change would honestly bring more people back to the game. This is supposed to a pirate game and you guys took a page out of the wrong book for this mechanic. Unfortunately it was another book you wrote (Ark). If you want this game to be successful then you need to get further away from Ark mechanics. If I wanted to play Pokemon simulator 2019, i'd get on my Switch and play Pokemon. I loved the tames in Ark.. there were so many dinosaurs and all of them unique. I really spent a lot of time in Ark because of the tames. I really don't like having tames in Atlas... it's a little ridiculous. I can see taming chickens and cows but riding a bear with a cannon attached to a cart that it's pulling... come on. Recommended fix: The book you need to take the page out of is Conan. Their thrall system needs to be emulated for this game. I'm not talking about a wheel of pain or anything, but crew members need to be assigned tasks. Add a few large structures that gather resources FOR you over time and allow us to assign crew members to crafting stations to increase the quality of craftables and open up new recipes. Let me build a 3x3 structure called a mine that can only be placed against a mountain/cliff face and it gathers metal/stone over time. If i assign a crew member to it then it performs better based off that crew member's level. Running around with a pickaxe/axe/sickle is not the way it should be in late game. Starting out - sure.. but once I'm established.. let things be automated. SOLO/DUO/SMALL COMPANY PLAY The new claim system caters to this. Well done. Returning from the wipe and seeing this new system in place made me happy. I prefer playing solo and now I can. I have a well established base on someone else's island with defenses and everything. This was not possible before the wipe. A lot of this has to do with the lack of a player base.. but you guys are moving in the right direction. POWER STONES/KRAKEN You really need to tweak this. Make the trash mobs on powerstone islands easier to kill. Make the boss mobs (hydra, drake) a lot harder to kill. I got all of the powerstones and kraken as a solo player and that probably shouldn't be possible. I camped inside powerstone caves once the population spiked - killed people running inside, took their key and got the stone. For the hydra, I just parked a sloop right outside the circle during a fight and got credit for it. These things shouldn't be possible. The way I received my powerstones.. yeah that should be possible.. that's total pirate mode right there. I should not get Kraken credit from doing what I did. SHIPS I love the ship gameplay in this. Ship battles are so much fun and nerve racking. With that being said.. we need at least 2 more ships added to this game. Something between a cutter (between sloop and schooner and takes small planks) and a frigate (between a brig and a galleon and takes large planks). CRABS See tames section but i'd like to point out if you did a poll back before you released your copy/pasted crab from Ark that asked "What addition to the game would make you quit" then "Copy pasting a giant crab that jumps over buildings" would be near the top of the list. Delete this from the game.. take your licks.. suck it up.. it was a mistake and needs to be removed. There is ZERO value added to the game by adding this creature as a tamable thing. The whole taming mechanic NEEDS to go.. seriously. Get rid of that crap and focus on the better aspects of the game. You will seriously bring this game back from the dead if you do this. TAMES Just kidding but seriously just ASK the community!!! Do a poll on your website! The community does not like this feature in ATLAS! Love it in Ark but it NEEDS to get out of ATLAS. UNNCESSARY ITEMS/MECHANICS Don't make the same mistake you made in Ark of adding content that makes other content obsolete. There are items in this game right now that came out during release that have had zero purpose and still have no place. This is the age of gunpowder and cannons. Why the hell would we want to make a catapult? I understand the purpose of the balista but seriously.. delete the catapult. Unless you're going to change your vitamin sytem to mirror Scum's then just get rid of it. It's easier to kill myself then deal with it. Make it easier to manage or just get rid of it. There are many more but the main thing I want to say is PLEASE PLEASE don't add MORE content that makes current content obsolete. Sometimes less is more. My 2c.. hope this is received well. Posted: 20 May 2019 05:26 AM PDT I heard maps got nerfed close to the point of not worth doing. Is this true? I'm a solo player on PvP. My guys slowly quit playing but I'm level 57 and got on last night with hopes to tame a tiger and knock some maps out. Well by the time I got a sloop up, sailed to get crew, found a few maps.. A few hours had passed already. And all the closest maps were all under 2.0 quality. I think an 11 quality was almost 5 grids away. Yea F that. And I heard on official Discord map xp was nerfed too so I threw out all my stuff and scuttled my ship and just went to bed. Today, I am determined to get xp. I don't want to do anything except grind xp. Which obviously includes farming materials to do so (ship, weapons, etc) Sorry for the lengthy post. I'm just getting aggravated with how tedious this game is. Feels more tedious than Ark. Anyways, what's my best bet for farming xp as a solo player until 2x ends? Maps? Farm alpha Yetis via traps and maces? I heard powerstones islands are good for xp by just killing stuff on them? Is that true? Which one do you recommend? Any strat? Is there any other methods with better xp? [link] [comments]
Please devs advertise the game more! Posted: 20 May 2019 12:12 AM PDT Since the wipe the game is really so much better then it used to be in the first days of early access. it still has its problems and bugs but in a normal amount for an early access game in my eyes. The literally unplayable game at release is long past and with the right crew you can have a really great time. The disaster at launch cost the game >75% of its playerbase within 2-3 monthes and the following much to long wipe announcement didn't help either. The biggest problem of the game right now in my eyes is the too little playerbase for such a huge server cluster. All the new islands after the wipe are great, but since there are not enough players left a lot of them stay empty already. How can there be serious conflicts if not even close to all claimable islands are taken? Recruiting new players is pretty much impossible, because of the bad reviews that keep any new players from actually start playing. Our company lost <50% of its players since the wipe for normal reasons (people get bored) but if you try to recruit you don't find anyone. If you have a look in youtube all you find in the first matches are videos from the very first days with horrible comments how unplayable the game is... And they have hundreds of thousand views! They give potentially interested players a completly wrong impression of the state of the game, since this horrible first days are long past and the game works much better now (still not close to perfect of course). So please devs what do you plan to advertise this game more and make clear official statements what you all achieved and whats better now? Try to adress as big of an audience as possible to tell all the interested people that left the game quickly after launch that it is actually playable now! If you could convince a few streamers with thousands of viewers to give the game another shot and they see all the positive changes, numbers and copys sold (thats what you are interested in) will raise quickly again. So Jat if you read this. What plans do you have for advertising? [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 May 2019 10:44 PM PDT Has anyone else had trouble with the in game company log reporting to Discord? Everything worked just fine, logs reported to a Discord channel as intended. Our last log message that was reported was at 3:40 P.M. on Friday. I have re-created the webhook a couple of times, checked all permissions of the channel to see if maybe that was it and I have come up with nothing? Anyone else had their company log webhook break on them a couple of days ago? AtlasCCTV has worked great, no changes or errors. Company logs just act like there is a game issue with the webhooks? Can't fire med cannons through window wall Posted: 19 May 2019 06:07 PM PDT I used window walls on my ship as makeshift gunports on the top deck, but the cannon won't fire. It just kicks me off. Working as intended, bug, or am I doing it wrong? [link] [comments]
Breeding and imprinting interactions Posted: 19 May 2019 05:23 PM PDT So while raising our bred animals, we can imprint on them. This imprinting gives a 30% boost to that animal's stats. My question is if I use an imprinted animal for breeding, does it pass on it's original stats, or does it pass on it's stat post-imprint? Aka, if a wolf is born with 200 hp, then imprinting raises it to 260 hp, will it pass on the 200 hp or 260 hp stat to it's children? [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 May 2019 03:25 PM PDT First i encountered that my guidelines of cannons doesn't aim properly to the cursor which seemed pretty buggy for some reason and then in the middle of a pvp sea battle my manual aim started to bug and i couldn't see the guidelines at all. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 May 2019 10:35 PM PDT I have noticed when they spawn they are throwing rocks right away. I feel the time for a rock elemental to attack should be at the end of the animation to give us time to react to it. [link] [comments]
