In its current state, this game cannot possibly succeed Posted: 12 Mar 2021 08:28 AM PST I see a lot of people talking about extremely fixable issues based around server technologies but I feel like this misses the point on why the game has such a low population. It certainly doesn't help but the root cause is missed. This game is terrifyingly incomprehensible to new players by both poor design and a community that is hurting the game. Let's talk about the Freeport system. A level cap introduced onto the Freeport that is so low has forced players to move out of the Freeport regions before they are in any way prepared for what is ahead. In conjunction with this, high level players patrol the lawless regions and "pick off easy prey". I have never seen a community in a large scale MMO that is so suicidal before. In many other games like this, older players actively encourage and help newer players as they understand that people will drift away and there needs to be a constant supply of fresh players to keep the larger meta game active and engaging. It feels like the opposite here - that the higher traffic areas of the game (read: where inexperienced players who don't understand the game's systems are starting their journey) are filled with comparatively huge gaps in resources. The design works around cutting off new players until level 8 to get their feet wet but it also blocks off a significant amount of the game. There's little to no ship building or base building or exploration. Essentially the game in Freeport is a mini-game before you start to play. I'd suggest a better way of doing this, is having level caps in more places. Freeport is 0-8. The 4 regions around them disallow building for anybody who isn't 8-25. Then potentially keep going or leave it at that. There's a gap between playing at Freeport and being an active participant in the game currently, and it is this gap which kills the new blood that comes in. Partially because of poor game design but partially because the community has not set self imposed limits and encouraged the higher players to get further out. Presumably, they have the same problem in that if they go further out then they have to start dealing with mega tribes. Without new blood coming in, having time to understand the game and start developing their own adventures, I fail to see how the game can ever recover its former population, let alone grow to a healthier state. This close to asking for refund Posted: 12 Mar 2021 01:59 AM PST There are two kinds of developers.... Those who break the game worse with every update without fixing some of the things that were bugged from beginning and they just add add add crap and then some of that crap becomes broken until they kill the game The other kind just knows what they are doing I guess. Idk.. So far the game looks broken af...... I have done nothing but lag and rubber band.....can't even eat food it's so laggy. AND I STILL GET STUCK ON LADDERS like how to add all this crap to the game and add more shit to be broken when you still had shit you need to fix, address, or work on. I have kept an open mind this entire time while people bad mouth developers but if this shit is not cleaned up and running smoother within next day or so I'm getting a refund from Microsoft or who the hell ever I have to harass if need be to get it.... Like the game is so good and has so much potential but I literally cannot eat food it's so laggy.....it wasn't bad like this..... If this is new normal, new standard, I can't even play. It literally doesn't fucking matter what's in the update or what's fun in the game IF YOU LITERALLY CAN'T PLAY IT [link] [comments] |
Hotkey items disappearing when using a bed. Posted: 11 Mar 2021 04:14 PM PST Hey all, so I was playing yesterday and fast traveled to one of my other bases and when I came back, all of my stuff was in the bag except for everything that was equipped in my hot bar. Those items just disappeared somehow. Does anyone know if this is a glitch or if there's a way to get them back? [link] [comments] |
