    2 short questions

    Posted: 26 Mar 2019 06:28 AM PDT

    1. how far away from a foundation / floor do animals spawn?

    2. is there an easy way to get rid of unwanted tames? we did some breeding and have some 100 animals we would like to get rid of. killing them with a weapon doesnt work, any better way?

    thanks

what tools are usually best for raiding with a few amounts of people like 2-3? by tools I mean things like a bear with a cannon, etc.

Putting the Players in Control of Ships

    Posted: 25 Mar 2019 12:51 PM PDT

    Ships.

1 person steers, controls the sails and shoots. Optionally, a second person helps via a lieutenant podium. Everyone else is "repair bitch". You can actually fight with a whole galleon by yourself but having some repair bitches is very important. As a repair bitch, your job is to take a hammer, some spare planks and stand around looking for damage, then whack on it with your hammer. It's as exciting as it sounds.

I keep thinking we have to fix this and I'm not sure how. I'll just float out some off-the-cuff thinking to get a discussion started:

    OPTION A

    • Eliminate "right click" targeting. (This is where you right-click a target and the NPCs track it and fire on it automatically.)
    • Remove "left click" targeting from the captain's wheel.
    • Only swivels can be set to automatic.
    • Cannons can be left-click fired by group, from a lieutenant's platform. (Left-click targeting is the "manual fire" mode. It shoots where you click. If a target is moving you have to lead it yourself.)
    • You can have more than one lieutenant's platform.
    • Planks never "break". 0 health just leaks a lot but the plank is still there.
    • Planks cannot be fixed by a repair hammer. They repair at a fixed rate on their own. (May require NPC crew.) They repair faster if anchored but also repair slowly at sea.

The thinking is that you might want a captain and 2-3 gunners, and ship to ship combat is going to take some skill to get those shots to land. You could have 1 person doing all the gunning but maybe it would make sense to distribute the workload a little. Nobody repairs because repairing is lame.

    OPTION B

    • Similar to above but rather than use podiums, you aim cannons manually, by actually getting onto a cannon. When aiming, however, the whole group mirrors your aim and fires when you click. So you get onto some left-side cannon and see the tracking of every other cannon assigned to the "Left" group and can fire them together.
    • Maybe to make it a little more interesting, when you jump onto a gun you control the group via 1-0 on the keyboard. 1 fires the left-most gun in the group, on down the line. 0 is "fire all". You cannot have more than 9 guns per group so if you have 27 cannons on a side, that's 3 groups and you'll want 3 gunners there.

This is really just option A but removes the podium and makes you actually get onto a cannon. It would encourage you to have more gunners so you don't have 1 gunner trying to run around from front to back to left to right. On the bright side you don't have to stand in an exposed podium to shoot.

    OPTION C

    • You can only fire cannons manually, 1 by 1.
    • NPCs will reload for you.

I know some people want this but I think this is too extreme. I don't want to mandate that ships bring 10 actual players to fire 10 cannons. But if we slow the reload down enough then 1 player might fire 10 cannons at the same total DPS as 10 players -- he's just running from cannon to cannon rather than waiting on reloads. That might not be awful.

I'm sure there are more ideas than this.

I mainly want to get players away from "repair bitch" and towards shooting rather than the current game, which has NPCs doing all the shooting and we get the dumb boring job.

    Maybe also:

    OPTION D

    • Pretty much like today but NPCs take 3x longer to reload.
    • Eliminate right-click and automatic firing of cannons. Left-click and manual firing only.
    • Automatic repairs, as above.

It means you can still fight a galleon solo but the more players you can have on guns, the better, because they're probably no worse than you at aiming and they'll get 3 shots to the NPC's 1. Still kinda favors "the zerg" though because if anyone can bring a 50-gun galleon with 50 actual players on it they'll be absolute murder.

Can we talk about the PTR?

can we get some info from the PTR players?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2019 12:12 PM PDT

Like the title says can some of the PTR players tell us what is different and what its like. Maybe something that are working well. Has anyone tried the new trench stuff or the sub?
